SPIRIT ISLAND

It can be hard to find a retreat close to home, a place where you truly can reconnect with nature and escape even the background noise of daily life. Fortunately, we've found that place, and it's waiting for you.

Spirit Island is no park, just a place where folks can stop, soak in their surroundings and enjoy a variety of activities. Everything from simple relaxation and meditation to prayer, yoga, bird and wildlife watching, reading and picnicking.

To maintain the environment, all activities are confined to one of two camping platforms, each on a different end of the island and large enough to accommodate up to six people for overnight camping. Of course, the island is available for day use, too, because even a short visit can refresh your body and restore your soul.

All guests must provide for their own sanitation and will be required to "tread lightly on the land." If you pack it in, for example, you'll be required to pack it out. No open fires are permitted. No disturbing birds and wildlife, and no destruction to plants, shrubs and trees. The island is a natural area, protected by conservation easement, and maintained as a refuge for all who visit.

The day-use fee is $5 per person for ages 11 and up, and reservations are required. For information about guided and self-guided overnight camping on Spirit Island, click here.
